In 2019, I embarked on my first long-term project as a game designer, working on My Little Pony: Magic Princess at Gameloft. I was part of the team for nearly a year, primarily handling live updates on the Android platform. This project not only served as a foundational experience in my career but also marked a significant period of learning, growth, and contribution. Here’s a glimpse of my journey and the impact I made.

As a live ops designer, my primary responsibility was to monitor and analyze the game’s key performance indicators (KPIs), identify issues, and develop actionable solutions. I was tasked with maintaining player engagement through compelling live updates while ensuring the game's economic balance remained intact.
Role and Responsibility
Initially joining as a junior designer, I was supposed to assist my senior on the project. However, my first task presented an unexpected opportunity — writing a fresh storyline for a Time-Limited Event that our team was proposing to the main team in Europe. This storyline was meant to align with the existing narrative while providing a unique twist that would captivate players and drive event participation.

One of the most impactful contributions I made during this project was identifying a significant flaw in our item bundles’ banner design. After analyzing the game's revenue metrics, I noticed that item bundles were underperforming. Upon further investigation, I discovered that the "SALE" graphic on the banners was too visually blended in, making it hard for players to notice at a glance.
I proposed a redesigned banner with a more prominent, eye-catching "SALE" graphic and ran an A/B test to measure its effectiveness. The results were remarkable — the new banner generated a 30% increase in revenue compared to the previous design, proving the power of visual clarity in in-game marketing.
Key Contribution: Boosting In-game Sales
During this period, I had the privilege of being mentored by Anastasiya Kara, who is now the Lead Product Manager at Rovio. Anastasiya taught me the fundamentals of game analysis, guiding me through the process of dissecting player behavior and transforming data into actionable insights.
Additionally, I participated in an internal game analysis contest, where I analyzed My Little Pony: Magic Princess itself. Competing against my peers, I managed to secure first place by presenting comprehensive insights and actionable recommendations to the studio’s higher-ups. This recognition not only solidified my analytical skills but also bolstered my confidence as a designer.
